We have music for you!

If you missed our last newsletter, here it is. http://www.smallpawsrescue.org/pup3/august0106.html

Ok! We have good news and bad news...which do you want first?.....OK, I'll give you the good news first! The bad news isn't really bad news...it's just really bad timing!

First, wanna see a picture of the Twins in their new foster home? These are the two Bichons that were rescued from the Duncan, Oklahoma shelter on Monday. The note left with them said they are identical twins, born from the same sac on March 2, 2002. They are four years old. One of them had been attacked by a bigger dog in the shelter. Thanks to you, Small Paws has healed their hurts, and we are working on healing their little hearts.

Here is more info about twin puppies! Yes, it really does happen occasionally!

OK...you wanna actually SEE our new TWIN BICHONS??? One....two...are you sure you wanna see 'em? Ok..here they are! The Twins!

They laugh alike,

they walk alike,

At times they even talk alike...what a handsome pair!

Thank you all so much for helping them and for helping me with your messages and prayers of encouragment, last Monday.

Poodle rescue here in Tulsa has the two poodles. The little red one has a mamory tumor and a heart murmur, so she is older and may have to be condsidered a hospice case. Caren will take good care of both she and the beeshey-poo male.

I couldn't bring myself to write it last Monday, but the little red poodle had..oh God..she had maggots coming out of her mouth which was covered in mats. I have never seen this in a live animal before.

Thanks to those of you who could help on Monday, we brought our balance up from
-$2000.00 to a positive $2000.00.

We urgently need an airline employee to fly a bichon pup, in the cabin, from Atlanta Ga., down to Houston, Tx.

When we have so many Bichons in need of expensive surgeries and treatments, what else do we need???

Who ya gonna call???

Wanna take a guess???

We just received word that we are getting our 40th Heart Murmur Puppy.

She is a little six month old baby girl, and she is now in Atlanta. An all breed rescue took her in a few days ago from a breeder that was closed down by the authorities. The breeder was probably saving this little one to breed once, and get one litter before she were to die, and no I am not kidding.

The other rescue can't afford this surgery. They have asked us to take Carrie on as a Small Paws Bichon, and we knew that our Small Pawsers would expect nothing less.

An Airline Employee help is needed to save this Bichon's life.

Our newest heart murmur baby is Baby Carrie Small Paws.

Dana Perez, our Ga. Team Leader is picking her up in the morning and she weighs 14 pounds. (Carrie, not Dana)

The heart specialist there in Atlanta says this is a severe heart murmur, and that it sounds like a PDA to her. We don't know what grade it is yet, but her rescuer says that Baby Carrie is already acting lethargic.

We have got to find an airline employee who can fly her in the cabin from Atlanta to Houston, ASAP. Someone with a buddy pass will probably not be able to help us as the planes are all so full now. An airline employee would probably have the best chance of getting any empty seat which might be available. SPR will pay the charges for Carrie to fly, and if the person who flies her can't get back in one day we will pay for their hotel and meals.

Is there anyone out there who can help us to fly Carrie from Atlanta, Ga, down to Houston Tx?

Small Paws Heart Murmur Relay Rescue Team Member, Patty Shearer, can drive her on down to Texas A&M so she can have the life saving surgery...surgery we have done 39 times before.

We have already put out an urgent post out to the wonderful Airline Ambassadors. This is a group of flight attendants who on their days off, fly children with serious illnesses to places like St. Jude.

I met the President of this group, Nancy Rivard, when SMall Paws recieved an award last year in Florida. and we hit it off immediately. They have helped us three times before, by flying Bichons that couldn't fly in coach due to different illnesses including heart murmurs.

The only problem is that these flight attendant gals need a little notice and time, and time is something we may not have.

I wish I didn't have to come and ask you to h elp again, after all that has gone on here lately...Bichons falling from the skies...mammary tumors, liver shunts, TWINS...and now this heart murmur.

If you have airline milage, there is usually at least a seven day advance time before you can use it, IF you can use it at all, so those probably won't work on this medical emergency. We can accept tickets like that for next time, as there always seems to be a next time.

And IF we can find someone to fly her...we still have to find a way to PAY for this surgery. ALL of the vet schools have gone up on all of their surgeries it seems. Everything is going up including the number of owner surrenders coming into SPR. Our heads are spining and none of us even have Vettigo anymore.

You may see these words on several rescue sites that are trying to raise funds. "Over 1000 Bichons are rescued annually in the US and require expensive medical treatment."

This is true, and Small Paws has the pictures and the vet bills to prove that we are the ones doing the vast majority of this work....because of people like you, who give from their hearts, to Bichons who don't have a Mom or Dad yet...who don't have a bed to call their own, yet.

This is summertime. This is August. This is the worst possible time for this to happen to little Carrie, and yet, I have to trust that God will provide for this little girl's surgery and the many others that we are trying to save, right now.

I'm tempted to delete all of this and start over...try to find another way to ask for your help, and yet, we really don't have to me for me to try one more time.

It's as simple as this. Carrie needs us. Without SPR, she won't live much longer.

If you can help Carrie, this is how to do that.

Hey Robin,

It seems like we have so many fluff emergencies right now; so many precious little ones needing expensive vet care before they can find their forever homes. I’d like to help by offering some very special quilts for some very special bichons! Check out the new samples!

Personalized birthday quilts are here, and Bailey was MORE than glad to model for the center square. These quilts feature “Happy Birthday” fabric, multi-colored bones, a plaid, and even a doggie print with leashes, toys, and bowls. Very colorful and totally unique for that special dog of yours. They measure 32” square and are made of 100% cotton fabrics. Please note: photo transfers to fabric are not as “rugged” as regular rag quilt squares. Although they are washable, wash with care in cold water, and only when necessary. The photos may fade with repeated washings. Think what a wonderful wall hanging these would be, or as a table topper.

I’m also offering a birthday quilt with our favorite fluff puppy head in the center. Here it is:

Like quilt #1, this quilt is 100% cotton and 32” square. It features birthday fabrics and candles, and can be machine washed and dried as desired. For more pictures, please visit my “Small Paws Quilt Shop” website at: www.christinejohnson.org.

To order either quilt, just make a $50 donation on the secure Small Paws credit card website.

Or you may send a check or money order to:
Small Paws Rescue Inc.
3316 S. 72nd. W. Ave.
Tulsa, Oklahoma, 74107

Specify quilt #1 or #2, and if ordering #1, send me your fluff’s name and picture to BR> From: christinejohnson@alltel.net Please allow three weeks for delivery. Each quilt will be handmade for your fluff and it will take the ’42 Singer some time (not to mention the ’52 owner of said sewing machine!)

And just so you know….Bailey’s real birthday is August 16th, when I picked him up from a shelter in North Georgia as a FOSTER fluff. Don’t tell him what he’s getting for a present. J

I've created a new section in our CafePress shop - The logo is different, lighter, and might appeal to more of our members.

You might want to mention it in the next newsletter you do - people getting ready for Summer events might enjoy some new logo wear.

Also, Buckwheat and Tina are featured on the first two SPR postage stamps, at just $19.99 a sheet.

Maybe it will help to raise some funds for when it's raining Bichons.

Still yet another way you can help us is to Sign Up As a Small Pawser With IGIVE.COM! A portion of your purchases from major upscale retail stores will then come back to Small Paws and the Bichons! A New Store & Doubled Donations Make It Cool To Help Small Paws Rescue Inc. (July 26, 2006)

Another way you can help Small Paws AND give a Birthday or Anniversary gift, is to make a donation in that person's name or honor. Please be sure to include a note so that person or family can be sent notification via a beautiful Small Paws Rescue card!

Here's another way to help SPR....donate shares of stock! This is a win-win situation for everyone. No taxes on the donation (for either you or SPR) and no broker's fees. This is a great way to dispose of those miscellaneous shares of stock you've been holding on to and put them to good use!

And, if you can contribute to charities at work, through United Way...how about choosing Small Paws as your charity at your place of employment?

I wish I had better words to use...a better way to paint the picture, a better way to tell of the need. I'm hoping that enough of you know me..know my heart to know I'm just writing what is coming into my heart....for this one precious life. All My Love, Robin

HI Robin, tonight while walking Beaude in the park met up with some people who we had talked with before. They walk their Shiba Inus and of course dog people always chat a bit. She had told me a few months back that she had a friend in Maine who owned a Bichon. I gave her a SPR card and she said she'd pass the info along to her friend.

Tonight she told me that her friend's Fluff had passed away and that she had gotten a puppy from SPR. Obviously she was a griever and was able to get her precious little fluff from SPR. It just made my day!! It was so exciting to know that little card had gotten such good results.

I'm going to need more cards before long!! Beaude and I have been able to meet so many nice people, I think in large part because Beaude is such a cutie that people will stop and pet him. Then of course it is easy to mention Small Paws and hand out a card.

Hugs to all the good folks at SPR

Janet and Beaude>

Hi Robin,
This is Nancy Carver from Bremerton, WA. Seems like I only write when we need prayer or advice. So, in keeping with that custom, here I am again. Our little Lucy who has had problems in the past with tummy issues, and her hips, is getting worse with her dysplasia in both hips. We took her to a orthopedic vet in Tacoma yesterday. He concurred with our local vet, she has dysplasia in both hips, it's bad, and can't be corrected with surgery, except...salvage surgery and that's usually not done until it's last resort. So, we have her on superoxide dismutase, glucosamine/chondrotin, and omega 3, and Metacam (as needed) which seems like it's almost every day now.
It has gotten really bad this past month or so. She still participates in the family but not like she used to. She is only 4.5 years old, she won't be 5 until November.

Nobody is talking about the "e" word, because otherwise she has NO problems. The vets are concerned about the long term effects of Metacam. Do you know of anyone who has ever gone through this with their fluff, and do you have any happy news about it?

In the meantime, can we get some prayers going please? Prayer for the medication to help but also that she won't need to be on it all the time. My poor little baby needs a miracle.
Thank you Robin,
Nancy

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.>
