Dear Auntie Robin,
Babe McLaughlin here - mom is writing, but me and Jessie want to help our SPR people and the 10 new ones that had no a/c, water or food. We want to send you $50 to help with these fluffs vetting. They are in good hands now, I know cause my mom and dad rescued me and totally failed fostering after the first day. We live in FL and know how hot it has been there and been traveling through hot parts of the US, but we are in a/c, lots of cool water, and food. I know how hard the holidays are for SPR - so here is our Labor Day donation for the Texas 10. Attached is me - resting in a/c - see how hard I have it.

Last Monday night we paid $6, 099.41 for just one week's worth of vet bills bringing our total for August vet bills to $29, 710.33.

We are still recovering from last month in July when we paid $45, 991.61 in vet bills.

Ok, as you know a mill was forced by officials to remove their dogs, or else, near Longview, Texas. This was a bad one, folks. Little food, sometimes NO water, and no ventilation in sweltering temps.

This is the news story about this situation.

This is the link about this rescue from the HSUS. (Small Paws works closely with the HSUS and recently was notified that we would be receiving $500.00 grant, for taking in the two Bichons from the Arkansas mill, who had been left without food or water. See more about this generous gift below! A huge thank you to the HSUS in Washington DC!)

We have been asked to come for 10 of these dogs in Texas, which are Bichons. We should have them back here in Tulsa at our clinic tomorrow evening. Dr. Russell will be there for the intake to see them. We are thankful that we have a vet who will come in on a Holiday weekend!

This is from Small Pawser, Montez Brown, whom you all know better as "Mom". (This is the lady who knew me as a child and "adopted" me as an adult. Now how lucky was I?)

You better hang on, Darlin, I saw at least one Bichon on two different news stations this evening and tonight. One is worse than any picture I have seen come on my screen from SmallPaws. One I remember is close, but this poor baby is beyond words. I had a feeling I would be seeing a newsletter before morning. Will be sending a little moola in the morning.
Hang on, these are bad cases ,cameras don't lie.
Montez>

It takes an average of $400.00 each to vet and quarantine them, and that's if nothing else is wrong.

We have the following matching donation challenges! The first one is for $500.00. Now we know that not everyone can afford to match a challenge this large, but if there is even one of you that can, this goes a long way towards helping these Bichons in need! Toni congratulations on your great review and bonus and thank you for sharing this with the Bichons from TX!!

Hi Robin, I’m still working on my “Realtor Debt”, but I’ve just passed one year as Accountant for Keller Williams in Vancouver, and I got a great review, a raise, and a bonus. Thought I’d share some of my bonus with those poor puppies we’ve been rescuing. I want to challenge anyone who has air conditioning (unlike those poor puppy mill pups), please make any donation today. (We got A/C this past May.) Take care, Toni>

And this next one is is from our ever loyal friend to all Bichons, Sue Hodges in Southern California. Is anyone able to match Sue?

Hey Robin,

The fall quilts are here, and I know some of us are more than ready for some cool weather to go with them. There are five new ones to choose from, for the still-low price of $50 each. The quilts are 100% cotton, with a flannel lining and batting, and measure about 32” square. Perfect for naps, or wall hangings, or even on top of a table. To order, just visit the SPR website donation page, and make sure you specify which quilt you’d like in the comments section as you check out. Please remember to list a second choice, because these quilts usually sell out fast.

You can see more pictures of the quilts on my website, and I’ve added a new feature as well. In the past three years, lots of Small Pawsers have sent me pictures of their fluffs enjoying their quilts. I’ve added them to the website on the “satisfied customers” pages. If you’d like to see your fluff added to the group, just send me their name and picture. The website is: www.christinejohnson.org

We have so many fluffs needing our help right now. I have a special place in my heart, and on my couch, for all of these mill dogs who so desperately need our help. If you’ve never fostered one, you just don’t know what you’re missing. These dogs show their gratitude in tiny steps every day, and it’s the most rewarding thing I know.

OK, off the soap box and back to the sewing machine!

Quilt #1: Candy corn Fluff

Nothing says fall like autumn leaves and Halloween candy, and this quilt has both! It also features a black and orange homespun and some polka dots. I had some similar candy corn fabric last year, and the quilts sold out in two days. Don’t be left out this year!

Quilt #2: Harvest Fluff

The main print in this quilt is like fall display, with pumpkins, gourds, and squash! It is set off by a fall plaid, a rust floral, and beige dots. Great for a fluff’s nap, or a beautiful wall hanging for the season.

Quilt #3: Fall patchwork

I found this beautiful fall fabric last year, and hid it away for this year’s quilts. The patchwork is to die for, with fall flowers, berries, and corn in a patchwork pattern. The other fabrics are green and gold leaves, and a homespun plaid. It belongs on your couch or a comfy chair, wherever your fluff likes to nap.

Quilt #4: Pumpkin patch

The favorite of the Mad Quilter, this quilt features lots of pumpkins and golds! The pumpkins are a beautiful shade, and the green leaf fabric has gold highlights as well. Order fast if you want this one. I don’t think it will last long.

Quilt #5: Fall Flowers

This is a great fall patchwork print with flowers in blue, rust, and beige. A reddish floral surrounds the fluff, and there is a beige plaid to go with them. Bailey has already napped on this quilt, and pronounced it “comfy.”

Thank you so much Christine, again!!

The gift shop is now sold out of tickets for the 2007 Blanketeers raffle quilt. Thank you to everybody who has purchased them and helped us sell so many in such a short time.

There are still a few tickets in the hands of Blanketeers, and these will be available - first come, first served - at bashes or picnics we attend this Summer. (we will have a very few at the NW bash Aug 27 in Arlington, WA and there should be a few at Tulsa.)

The drawing will be held and the quilt awarded at the Okie Picnic in October. You need not be present to win. We'll get it to the winner if they're not at the picnic.

Printing is limited to 1000 tickets, at $5 each, and we believe they will sell out well before the drawing at the Oklahoma Picnic, October 27, 2007.
(Claudia Bilotti of Stamford, CT won the 2006 quilt! It appraised for $3400.00!)

"Trouble In Paradise"

The second Book in the Cassie Grimes Mystery Series with a special acknowledgement to Small Paws Rescue! In the book, under "Author's Notes & Acknowledgements", this paragraph appears:

A special thanks to Small Paws Rescue for their tireless devotion to rescuing Bichons from the most unspeakable circumstances. Robin Pressnall and her army of foster parents, volunteers and supporters are amazingly generous with their time and money on behalf of some of the most loving and trusting creatures on earth. They are the embodiment of the idea of "walking the walk."

Her business is in a lull, her husband’s lost his job and her best friend is so depressed she’s talking about suicide. Cassie Grimes is sure that things can only get better as she loads her dogs in the car and heads for Florida to work things out.

Fat chance. Nothing’s ever that simple for this dog-loving woman who seems to be a crap magnet. Shortly after arriving at the condo she’ll soon be forced to sell in the name of solvency, her wealthy best friend is arrested for the disappearance of her much older husband.

What’s a woman to do? Jump into the middle of things, naturally. With the help of her Bichons, Maggie and A.J., her disgruntled hubby and a couple of gun-toting geriatric party girls, Cassie can’t resist being an amateur detective. She’s not making any friends in the local police department because she keeps turning up in the middle of crime scenes. While trying to help her trophy-wife friend, Cassie uncovers a web of fraud, murder and extortion that have the bad guys trying to beat her up or blow her up or just plain shoot her. It gets so bad that Gene even suggests she hire her former boyfriend as extra security. Yikes.

What Cassie goes through in the name of friendship will keep you on the edge of your seat. That is, of course, if you don’t fall off it while laughing out loud. Once again, Pearson proves that everyday life can be not only exciting, but hilarious.

Of course, they are signed from Maggie and A.J. to the buyer's pooch, so please put your fluff's name(s) in the Comments section of the order form!

it to them as a gift, or you can stitch it yourself first then give it
as a gift. When you are done, it can be framed or made into a pillow.

Hi Robin,
The Humane Society of the United States would like to donate $500 from our Puppy Mill Rescue Assistance Fund to Small Paws Rescue to help with the care and treatment of the Bloomer, Arkansas puppy mill Bichons.

We would like to extend a similar offer to the Animal Rescue Foundation of Tulsa, which I understand rescued some of the other dogs. To that end, I was wondering if you could help put me in touch with Norita Shipman as I do not have her personal email address.

Thanks so much for your help, and for all you do!

Hi, Robin,

My four rescued dogs (Didi, Scottie, Sammy, and Max) and I are each giving $10 toward the vetting funds for the puppy mill dogs coming in. Money is scarce, but not as scarce as the water they had; funds are tight, but not as tight as the air they had to breathe; the donation is small, but not as small as the space they had to live in. My "boys" and I are so fortunate now; all I have to do is look back at their old pictures with sad little faces to realize what a difference can be made with care and generosity. "Riches" can, and should, be measured in terms other than dollars.

I have had an interesting morning, Left me cell phone at home and then a flat tire on the way to work. The sun is shining and the temperature is wonderful after the 90 plus temperatures for most of August. Plus Triple A is a wonderful service to have. God is in Control and I am grateful to him and the work he is doing threw Small Paws.

I am a regular monthly contributor and a owner of Wrigley Field rescue puppy (4 years ago known as Lion King)
I will give an additional $25.00 to help the Texas babies. If you need additional information I can be reached at 317-554-3044 (direct line at work)

I would also like to up my monthly contribution by $5.00 starting in September. I would like to let others know that it is easy to commit to a regular amount every month and have it directly taken from your checking account. Let's use technology to Small Paws advantage. I have been doing it for close to 4 years and have never had a problem.

Thanks for your work and God Bless You All.

Subject: Like to match a donation challenge

To: SPRFluff@aol.com

If no one has matched Lynda De Hart's $100 challenge, I would like to do so, or if it has already been matched, could you wait a little bit and see if another $100 challenge comes in? Regardless, I want to make a $100 donation for the 10 N. TX puppy mill rescues, but I thought I'd try to stretch out the dollars and match a challenge at the same time. I have donated several times online before so my CC info should be there.

Right now I don't have any Bichons, but I am leaning towards adopting a couple when I retire (10 years though). Currently we have several other dogs that we have taken in over the years, and one has some dog aggression to unfamiliar grown dogs so I can't foster or adopt a small dog at this point. I am totally in sync with Small Paws Rescue philosophy of helping regardless of age or health issues. Our own animals (7 dogs and 4 cats, all rescues) have had a gamut of issues over the years that we have addressed the best we can. We have no human children so these fill our hearts (and house and yard, lol!), and we can't imagine not having them, issues and all.

Thank you for all you do for those that can't help themselves.

This donation is in honor of my two precious babies, Bailey and Dudley, that we adopted through Small Paws. Your story about the puppy mill in the Dallas/Fort Worth area touched my heart so because that is where I live. I hope the owner gets the punishment that he or she deserves. Thank you Small Paws for all you do not only for Bichons, but dogs everywhere by raising awareness of inhumane treatment of dogs.

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
Godspeed Humphrey Sisco. Godspeed.
