Well, little Kody made it through liver shunt
surgery! So far so good!
This is from Sue Rambin, our Pacific Northwest
Team Leader!
Subject: Kody
Date: 8/29/2007 8:39:46 P.M. Central Daylight
Time
From: RAMSDDJ@aol.com
Kody had her surgery today and is doing well.
She is in ICU until tomorrow. She did have
ONE large liver shunt, which is a good thing,
rather than several smaller shunts. Dr. Snyder
will be calling Kristine tomorrow afternoon
with another report.
Sue>
So that is good news! Thank you all for saving
her life!
We have more good news! The Pacific Northwest
Bash was held last weekend in Arlington,
Washington at the home of Kristine Cater
where $1,731.00 was raised for Small Paws!
They had 48 Bichons in attendance! Great
job you all! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
I also wanted to show you some pics of some
of the newbies that we have at our Tulsa
clinic. All of these babies owe there very
lives to all of you! Are you ready?!

Is this not the most darling little boy?
Baby Figaro tried to croak on us last week.
This is the tiny baby that Dr. Russell was
watching from the "Clinic Cam"
at his home, in the evenings. Figaro had
an upper respiratory infection of some kind.
He was up and wagging his tail at me on Tuesday
but they are still having trouble getting
him to eat on his own. Figaro you can't be
a big boy Bichon, if ya don't eat, son!

This is another of our male puppies. I think
Bonnie just placed him in a home with a griever.
I hope they have running shoes. This one
is a little pistol!

This little girl had a hernia that Doc went
in and surgically repaired. She was just
waking up.
Well, now is as good of a time to tell you
as any other. Remember I told you how the
nine males from last weekend had patches
of fur missing? Well, there is a reason.
They ALL came in with ticks and LICE. UGH.
Doc had to treat them for lice. That's why
this one looks wet.
BLAHHHH poor babies. L I C E. I can handle
blood, guts, barf, and various things coming
out out the other end. I can NOT handle maggots
or L I C E. ARGH!

Here are five of them. They feel so happy
to be clean of BUGS. They are all tail waggers.
Amazing, considering the shape they came
in, in. I'm trying to learn how to operate
a new camera, so this is why they are a blur.
Operator problems. Just move your head back
and forth fast and maybe you will see them
without the blur.

Three of the 17 that came in all at once.
These are little girls. They can't stay with
the boys until everyone is fixed. Don't ask
why.
We have a short movie for you too, of everyone
who is up at Doc's in Tulsa, but with this
other camera I have to figure out how to
edit down in size! Dale is going to help
me tomorrow night! Oh that man we love him
so, don't we?
Speaking of Dale. He supports this magnificent
obsession with every fiber of his body. He's
sometimes worse than I am. Many times when
I have to be out of town. I come home to
find that he has taken in a rescued Bichon
and it's sitting in our kitchen wagging it's
tail, as if I'm not going to notice one more.
I got home on Tuesday afternoon. from Sarah
Montgomery's memorial service, in Austin.
I knew I would be coming home to an empty
house as Dale had come home at noon. to take
all four of ours to Aunt Amy, their groomer. All of mine love to go to see her and cry
to be the first one she lifts out through
the car window.
Around 6 that evening, Dale came in through
the back kitchen door. I was across the house
fighting with my AOL (Agony on Line) which
was telling me that my mail was temporarily
unavailable. (Temporary my foot. It was this
way almost all day today, too.)
Dale was standing there down in the kitchen,
holding one of our Bichons, or so I thought.
He hollered to me, "Why is this little
white dog sitting on the back steps?"
What a funny guy. That's obviously my Spunky
Monk--
Wait. WHO IS DAT?
Dale thought it was someone I brought home
with me and didn't know why this sweetie
was sitting out in the heat, on the back
steps.
Well, she was out there because I DIDN'T
KNOW THAT SOMEONE HAD DROPPED HER OVER OUR
FENCE AND ABANDONED HER HERE AND NO I AM
NOT KIDDING.
She was covered in fleas. We Front-lined
her. Her coat is a mess. She is just a doll.
She was wearing a collar (which was trying
to choke her it was so tight) with no tags
and she is not microchipped. Pinned to her
collar was a tiny gold angel medal.

I thought of naming her AARP. (Abandoned
at Robin's Place) but good sense hath prevailed
and I guess her name must be "Angel."
She is just a pup, maybe 8 months old. Someone
has HACKED off her tail. It's about 5 inches
long. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? She's VERY
sweet. Barked all night because she wanted
to come inside and sleep with us, bugs and
all, instead of bunking with Sally Anne in
the air cooled garage. Spunky Monkey asked
me if we were trading Sally Ann in for a Bichon. No such luck. (JUST KIDDING,
HONEY)
So, that's the latest news on our newbies.
If you'd like to help us to pay vet bills
for the 17 newest Bichons that have come
in, this is how to do that.
I'm waiting until I talk to Dr. Skip, the
surgeon, tomorrow to tell you about our next
possible medical emergency. I want to make
sure of costs before I tell you about it.
It's about one of the female pups that is
here in Tulsa. She falls over fainting. We
believe we know what is wrong, but I will
wait until I talk to Dr. Skip.
If I ever need surgery I'm going to glue
cotton balls all over me, do the Bichons
wave, and hop up on his table. He is THAT
good.

The gift shop is now sold out of tickets
for the 2007 Blanketeers raffle quilt. Thank you to everybody who has purchased
them and helped us sell so many in such a
short time.
There are still a few tickets in the hands
of Blanketeers, and these will be available
- first come, first served - at bashes or
picnics we attend this Summer. (we will have
a very few at the NW bash Aug 27 in Arlington,
WA and there should be a few at Tulsa.)
The drawing will be held and the quilt awarded
at the Okie Picnic in October. You need not
be present to win. We'll get it to the winner
if they're not at the picnic.
Printing is limited to 1000 tickets, at $5
each, and we believe they will sell out well
before the drawing at the Oklahoma Picnic,
October 27, 2007.
(Claudia Bilotti of Stamford, CT won the
2006 quilt! It appraised for $3400.00!)

"Trouble In Paradise"
The second Book in the Cassie Grimes Mystery
Series with a special acknowledgement to
Small Paws Rescue! In the book, under "Author's
Notes & Acknowledgements", this
paragraph appears:
A special thanks to Small Paws Rescue for their tireless devotion to rescuing Bichons from the most unspeakable circumstances. Robin Pressnall and her army of foster parents, volunteers and supporters are amazingly generous with their time and money on behalf of some of the most loving and trusting creatures on earth. They are the embodiment of the idea of "walking the walk."
Her business is in a lull, her husband’s
lost his job and her best friend is so depressed
she’s talking about suicide. Cassie Grimes
is sure that things can only get better as
she loads her dogs in the car and heads for
Florida to work things out.
Fat chance. Nothing’s ever that simple for
this dog-loving woman who seems to be a crap
magnet. Shortly after arriving at the condo
she’ll soon be forced to sell in the name
of solvency, her wealthy best friend is arrested
for the disappearance of her much older husband.
What’s a woman to do? Jump into the middle of things, naturally. With the help of her Bichons, Maggie and A.J., her disgruntled hubby and a couple of gun-toting geriatric party girls, Cassie can’t resist being an amateur detective. She’s not making any friends in the local police department because she keeps turning up in the middle of crime scenes. While trying to help her trophy-wife friend, Cassie uncovers a web of fraud, murder and extortion that have the bad guys trying to beat her up or blow her up or just plain shoot her. It gets so bad that Gene even suggests she hire her former boyfriend as extra security. Yikes.
What Cassie goes through in the name of friendship will keep you on the edge of your seat. That is, of course, if you don’t fall off it while laughing out loud. Once again, Pearson proves that everyday life can be not only exciting, but hilarious.
Of course, they are signed from Maggie and
A.J. to the buyer's pooch, so please put
your fluff's name(s) in the Comments section
of the order form!

be just the thing for you. Have your favorite
photos converted into a

cat, child or anything you have a picture
of that you would like to
cross stitch. You can support Small Paws
Rescue and have fun at the

This would make a great gift for someone
you know that likes to cross
stitch. You can buy the pattern or the pattern
and the floss and give
it to them as a gift, or you can stitch it
yourself first then give it
as a gift. When you are done, it can be framed

Betsy Bunny, Annie (an SPR doggie), Ding-Ding

Dear Robin: Could you please have the Prayer
Warriors pray for my
Peaches. She is having surgery this morning
for mammary adenoma, and
she is a bad risk for surgery due to her
leaky mitral valve, enlarged
heart and collapsing trachea. Dr. is very
cautious about her
outcome. Remember Peaches?? She is the little
Pom, who is Mama to
my Teddy that you helped me rescue 4 years
ago from a Puppy Mill in
Missouri. She has been such a blessing for
our whole family, and I
would love to give her more time to enjoy
the love we have given
her. Believe me, she has given us more love
in return. God bless
you, Robin, for all that you do for God's
helpless little creatures.
Melba DeMartini
Ok. I think that's all for now. More as it
happens and it is always happening! Going
right now to check and make sure there are
no extras in our back yard. All My Love,
Robin

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought
it was truly the epitome of what we do, and
why we do it. I wanted to use this black
and white picture of Humphrey, taken only
days before his death due to congestive heart
failure, to let those who may be new to Small
Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known
love. He would have died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
Godspeed Humphrey Sisco. Godspeed.
