URGENT MEDICAL EMERGENCY

Sara Lee ( as in "Nobody doesn't like" )

Born 3/10/03, in a commercial kennel in Mo, baby Sara Lee was born with a grade
6 heart murmur, a hole in her heart where blood is leaking. I am flying with her RIGHT NOW, TONIGHT to Texas A&M so they may perform the life saving surgery, as they have done so many times before.

The Heart Murmur Reunion Babies

UPDATE June 4, 2003

We arrived safely this morning at Texas A&M University Vet School, in College Station, Texas.

Here is baby Sara Lee with my buddy, Lucy at the front desk.

Fourth year vet students take Sara Lee's vitals.
The news is not good.

As darling as she is, Sara Lee is one VERY sick puppy. Her heart is VERY enlarged and...just like Marcie was, Sara Lee is already in congestive heart failure.:( We had no time to waste and I thank God for our Fairy Dog Pilots, Eric and Sharon Krask for helping us to fly down here when we did.

Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. They will not be able to coil her, (The coil is the less invasive technique), because the doctors who do the coiling are away at a symposium. Please pray. They are going to have to go in and crack the chest open tomorrow.

She reminds me so much of baby Stetson, the one baby that we lost at Texas A&M. He died on the table.

More tomorrow as it happens from Texas A&M University.

UPDATE June 5, 2003 5:00 P.M.
Sara Lee MADE it through surgery and is recovering in ICU! She won't be able to go home tomorrow and we will have to wait and see if she can go home on Saturday.
Keep Praying! We had another miracle! Pics of her surgery to follow this evening!

Update June 6, 2003 8:45 A.M.
Sara Lee is doing so well in ICU this morning! Thank God for these folks who know what they are doing down here at Texas A&M University, and for all of you who support Small Paws Rescue!

Here she is, getting ready for her chest to be shaved before surgery.

Her chest is now shaved and they are doing more prep work.

Here she is right before surgery. It's amazing that they are able to do this surgery which will give Sara Lee a normal life and a normal life span!

More tomorrow from Texas A&M University!

UPDATE: June 6, 7:00 P.M.

Sara Lee and I are coming home tomorrow!

They brought her in to me for our visit, wrapped in a binkie.

She stood up and wagged her tail on our visit today! Her EKG shows NO leakage. The murmur is 100% fixed!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Nobody doesn't like Sara Lee! She has been adopted! We head for home tomorrow!

Can we turn on our heart light one more time? Sara Lee's surgery, when it is all said and done will run about $2000.00. If you would like to help us to save Sara Lee, this is how you may do so.
