you who may have recently seen us on December
11, 2012, on Fox and Friends in New York City ,
or on
Animal Planet on "Dogs 101.", or you may have read about us in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Find Your Happiness,

Passion and Joy . You also may have seen us on "Inside Edition" with Deborah Norville!
If you missed our previous newsletter, here it is.
We have an emergency
prayer request for
one
of our little rescues.
It's little Jazz and we are trying to do
everything we can to save his little life.

"Jazz"
is approximately
3 and weighs
13 lbs. He is Heartworm
positive with an
Upper Respiratory
Infection.
He is not doing well at all and the vet isn't
sure he will even make it. He may have either
distemper or canine flu.
This is why we quarantine all Bichons that
come from shelters. For this very reason,
so we don't infect the dogs of our Foster
Parents.
Yes, it's more expensive to pay for 10 days
of quarantine in a vet's office, but the
health of our own personal dogs have to come
first.
I've asked Dr. Wilson at the Colleyville Animal Clinic in Colleyville, TX., to please get little
Jazz over to Dr. Melmed, the Internist who took care of little Irving, as an emergency, and he is doing that for
us.
I'll let you know
what we find out.
Next, I want to thank Calvin Obara and Penny
Thompson, and Terrie and Jon Lowden, for
the wonderful job they did on the Florida
Suncoast Bichon Bash which was held on April
28, 2013.
This is the letter that Calvin sent out to
everyone who attended. It was a fabulous
bash! Many thanks to everyone who attended!
Here are a few pictures!

Hi All,
Thank all of you
for coming and helping us
raise more than double
last year’s total.
Because of all of
you, we were able to raise
an amazing $8388.00.
Penny and I definitely
need to thank Jon
and Terrie Lowden
again this year for
their
assistance. Not only
did they help with
the
planning, making
decorations and some
of
the doggie cookies,
setting up, and frying
the fabulous Mexican
Hush Puppies, they
even
had time to make
3 beautiful stained
glass
Bichons for the auction.
A very special thanks goes to the caterer,
Sean Gwynn, owner of The Twisted Cork Grille
here in St. Petersburg for the wonderfully
delicious lunch. If you get a chance to go
there and you’ll have to try the deep fried
key lime pie. We went to pay Sean on Monday
and to our surprise Sean announced that he
was donating 40% of the catering bill back
to Small Paws.
Thank you to Kathy
Fritz for taking care
of the welcome/registration
table.
Because of the care
she took checking
you
all in, we had an
accurate count of
85 humans
and 65 Fluffs attending
this year. We also
need to thank Kathy
for making the beautiful
vests that were won,
and worn, by the
2013
“Señor Fluff” or
“Señorita Fluff”.
More on
that later. We have
received many inquiries
and Kathy has indicated
that if anyone would
like a similar vest,
except without the
royalty,
she is taking orders.
You can email her
details
at cfritz3@tampabay.rr.com.
Thanks to Norma Pruss
and Carmelle Bennett
for taking care of
the silent auction
and
boutique. Norma and
Carmelle’s job was
especially
more work this year
and we don’t know
what
we would have done
without you. We had
many,
many, many more corporate
donors than we
have ever had before.
And a big thank you
to all of you that
knocked on doors
to get
these donations or
bought items yourself
to donate. As you
saw there were THREE
tents
filled with goodies.
After all this, thank
you to all of you
that shopped, bid,
and
donated funds to
help raise our record
breaking
total to assist Small
Paws.
Thanks to our set-up
and clean-up crews:
Penny, Jon, Terrie,
Wayde Matthews and
anyone
else that helped
clean up. As you
may have
noticed, Penny and
I were going in about
a dozen different
directions at any
one time
so we have missed
who was helping.
Thanks to Louie Bertolino
for coming all
the way from Boston
to help by being
able
to take some credit
card purchases for
us
as well as getting
some pictures and
video.
Thank you to Robin
Pressnall for starting
all of this. We are
so happy that you and
your right-hand woman,
Bonnie Ferguson could
join us for this
beautiful day. After listening
to Robin talk about
Small Paws, if anyone
is interested or
curious about fostering
or adopting a dog
from Small Paws please
let us know and we
will get you in touch
with the right people.
Many of the beautiful,
precious Fluffs you
saw Sunday came from
Small Paws. There
are so many ways to help.
We also want to thank
all the other people
that came from out
of state, Sara Pace (Small
Paws Team Leader)
from Illinois, Kathryn
Smith (Small Paws
Team Leader) from North
Carolina, Doris Garrison
(Small Paws Volunteer)
from Arizona and
Barbara Integlia from New
York, NY.
I want to thank Penny
for keeping me on track
and making sure things
get done when they
should. She also
helped with writing some
of the updates.
Comments, ideas and
suggestions will
be gladly
accepted.
Here is the list

Hi Robin,
Láithreach my 11
year old, very tall
Bichon
who has liver disease,
had some terrible
blood work which
led to an ultra sound
yesterday.
It shows her liver
disease advancing.
Her
adrenals looked small
so they tested her
for Addison's Disease
which is the exact
opposite of Cushing's.
and she was negative
for that as well
as Pancreatitis.
Next week
they are doing a
biopsy of her liver
again,
and that will be
sent to pathology
to see
where she is with
this disease. They
will
be especially testing
for copper because
a lot was found last
time. Then when all
the results are in,
her internist will
set
into promotion a
new game plan.
Just wanted to keep
you abreast of her
situation
and to let you know
she is receiving
the
best care there is
at Angell.
Robin please say
a prayer for her.
Liver
Disease is dreadful.
Thankfully I have
enough
money to take proper
care of her. Láithreach
is only 11 years
old. We caught it
very early
but that doesn't
seem to matter.
Thanks for giving
me this beautiful
big/little
girl.

We had him for the last five years, He is
very obedient normally when we say "stay"
he will stop wherever he is, so some times
we are used to play with him in the yard
for he loves to run around the yard in circles,
during that time we did not put him on the
leash, this particular day he was not on
leash and did not yield to the command when
he saw some dog across the road. It took
off so suddenly the on coming driver did
not have time to stop the car. That is how
it happened.>
 Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought
it was truly the epitome of what we do, and
why we do it. I wanted to use this black
and white picture of Humphrey, taken only
days before his death due to congestive heart
failure, to let those who may be new to Small
Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known
love. He would have died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
