Gem of the Day: "I would rather have
eyes that cannot
see; ears that cannot hear;
lips that cannot
speak, than a heart that
cannot love."
~ Robert Tizon~
Thank you everyone for praying for our Bichon,
Chipper! He is home from the hospital and
the antibiotics are working! He isn't able
to go for his walks yet, but he is eating
and going up and down the several sets of
stairs at our house. He is also barking while
we eat dinner so we will share with him!.
So far, so good! Thank you for praying for
us! Dale and Robin

If you missed our previous newsletter, here it is.
We have a situation
going on down in South
Texas.
SEVERAL of our Bichons
are coming into rescue
as hard heartworm
positive.
Others are needing various other kinds of
surgeries and treatments to the point that
this week we got almost $6000.00 in vet bills
just for Bichons in South Texas. And those
all include rescue discounts.
We do not have funds in our checking account
to pay these bills at this time.
I've been trying
not to come with you for
each one of them,
hoping that enough funds
would come in to
be ale to cover them, but
that is just not
happening.
I want to show you just a couple of the new
heartworm positive Bichons that we have in
rescue.
They are in pretty bad shape and look to
be pretty neglected.
I can't authorize their vet care until we
can pay the current vet bills in South Texas.
We need your help to be able to keep taking
in Bichons in South Texas. It's getting serious
and no, I'm not kidding.
This is Poppy, a little female about 4 yrs
old. She is high Heartworm positive and about
7.5 lbs. She is very thin.
The cost for HW treatment and vetting, and
quarantine will be between
$800- $900.00.

This is little Cherish who is 1.5-2 yrs old
and 11.4 lbs
Cherish came in last Friday. Her backside
is covered with dreadlocks. She is heartworm
positive, has hookworms and round worms,
plus she will need to be spayed. Her vetting
will be between $800.00-900.00

The vets that we owe from South Texas are
Cole's, Cypress, and Longebbough Vets.
See Vet Bills Paid By Small Paws Rescue For
The First 4 Days of
March 2013, totalling $12, 971.03 which is
an average of $3, 242.75 per day.
(We are having to hold these larger checks
until funds come in to pay them.
HELP IS NEEDED.
We don't want to have to stop taking in heartworm
positive dogs in South Texas. This is a treatable
disease!
We do use the standard heartworm treatment
recommended by The American Heartworm Society,
so that these dogs can go to homes within
a couple of months.
If we were to use the "slow kill"
method for heartworms, we would have to keep
these dogs in rescue for an average of 16
months, along with the liability for all
of their vet bills during that time. That
just isn't feasible and is the reason we
don't use the monthly Heartguard as treatment
for heartworms.)
These are little
precious lives we are talking
about here.
And these little
lives have been saved.
But the cost to do
it has been high.
Now, two more lives need your help in South
Texas. We can't even START on them until
we pay this current bill.
I am here and will
issue any matching
challenge
donations for the
Hearts of Texas.
Help is needed.
All My Love, Robin

Subject: Re: Small
Paws Rescue
We had him for the last five years, He is
very obedient normally when we say "stay"
he will stop wherever he is, so some times
we are used to play with him in the yard
for he loves to run around the yard in circles,
during that time we did not put him on the
leash, this particular day he was not on
leash and did not yield to the command when
he saw some dog across the road. It took
off so suddenly the on coming driver did
not have time to stop the car. That is how
it happened.>
 Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought
it was truly the epitome of what we do, and
why we do it. I wanted to use this black
and white picture of Humphrey, taken only
days before his death due to congestive heart
failure, to let those who may be new to Small
Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known
love. He would have died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
