Gem of the Day: Our Small Paws Rescue Attorney,
Calley Gerber, of Gerber Animal Law Center, is in the news for work she is doing on
behalf of a Bichon Mom.
Please feel free
to share this with
your
friends.
This is an absolute
travesty and should
never
happen to anyone.
Go Calley, Go.

2 year old Chloe was hit by a car on Monday
night. She has a
broken front leg.
We got her late this
afternoon. She is tiny, only about 10 #'s.
This is the x-ray of the break. They want
to do the surgery tomorrow but we have to
raise funds for her first before I can authorize
it. HELP?

Scroll down for an update on little Magnum!
But first, we have
an emergency. We
have
a little one coming
in who was hit by
a car
on MONDAY in the
Washington DC area.
Chloe was allowed outside without a fence
or a leash and these little guys have no
idea what cars are. It only takes one wheel
of one car to changes things in a heartbeat.
This afternoon, we got this baby girl into
rescue.
The previous owner is a college student and
can't afford the surgery.

2 1/2 year old Chloe
<Your City and State?: DC
Name of Bichon/BichonMix in need of rescue::
Chloe
Is this dog a Bichon
or Bichon Mix?: Yes
Dog's age:: 2 yrs
Sex of dog:: Female
Has this dog been
Spayed or Neutered?:
No
Can you tell us why
this dogs needs to be
rehomed?: My dog
was hit by a car on monday,
her distal humerus
was broken, I took her
the emergency room(Friendship)
The vet gave me three
options:
1.Surgery
2.Amputation
3.Euthanization
I really need help.
I spoke to Joanne.>
Joanne Raus did speak to the owner.
From Joanne: "She
told me she based
her decision to surrender
the dog because
she cannot afford
to take care of the
dogs
surgery and would
not want to keep
a dog
with 3 legs."
Lynda DeHart, one of our Small Paws Board Members, and Denise Santos, one of our Assistant
Team Leaders, picked this little girl up
and took her to :
The Hope Center for
Advanced Veterinary Medicine

Vienna, VA 22180
Tel (703) 281-5121
Fax (703) 281-0149
Open 24 hours
The surgeons have
consulted and she will
have surgery to repair
this leg by the weekend.
Yes, amputation would
be cheaper, but she
is barely two years
old.
This surgery should make her as good as new.
We have to raise funds for her first.
This is the estimate for between $4701.00
and $5211.30. (They have her down as four years old. We
are letting them
know she is only 2 1/2.)

The emergency fee was for 1293.00. They did
the x-rays and pre-op
blood work and started
her on IV pain meds,
thank God.
Tomorrow morning I will speak to the surgeon
and do my best to try to get a rescue discount. It does help that he is a buddy of mine
since he did SPR Prince's surgery a while
back.:)

We have this matching donation challenge
from Hawaii. Susie
wanted us to issue it
for the next emergency.
Well. Here we are.
Aloha! Suzie (funteam@hotmail.com ) from Hawaii has issued a challenge for 100.00.
This is for all the
fluffs in every body's
life. Aloha!!
This is how you can
help little Chloe
and
I am here and will
issue all matching
challenge
donations.
I'm so sorry this
happened at this
time,
when we have had
so many emergencies
all
at once.
But I knew you would
want us to help this
poor little girl.
She needs us terribly.
All My love, Robin

From: Omalou@aol.com
I called this afternoon
and he is doing a
tad bit better each
day. He is standing
on
his leg and walking
for short distances.
He was shaved today
because every time
they
changed his bandage
and did water therapy,
his hair would get
very matted. Magnum
is
still yellow from
the liver enzymes
being
high. They certainly
not as high when
we
first got him, but
still high. He is
still
eating so that's
good. They will take
pictures
probably next Monday.
He is making teeny
weenie baby steps,
but no steps backwards!!!

Thank You!

I just wanted to forward the pic of Joey
with his new blanket (made by Linda G). His
foster parents, George and Linda Boswell
adopted him. Joey was in your newsletter
a few months back for a torn ACL that he
had repaired. Thank you to all the caring
people that donated to make this happen.
He is doing great, as you can see!

Hi Linda,
Joey wanted us to
let you know that
he loves
his new blankie and
to thank you for
making
it for him, it's
just beautiful. He
loves
it!
Thank you very much,

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
