Gem of the Day: "He will cover you with
His feathers
And under His wings
you will find refuge."
~Psalm 91:4~
Read the story of
Noah the Dove, who
raised
three baby orphaned
wild bunnies.
This is what God does with us when we need
the warmth and love He offers. He gathers
us under His loving wings to a warm cradle
of protection. All we need do in return is
give Him the thanks and praise for being
with us.
Update on Noah the
pigeon:
"We are Bob and Georganne Lenham of Wild Rose Rescue Ranch in Texas , home of Noah the Pigeon.
After finding many
posts online featuring
Noah and the bunnies
and reading about
the
many lives he has
touched (his story
has
been forwarded around
the world) we thought
we'd post a follow-up
and a few new photos.
We knew there was
something special
about
Noah the moment we
saw him.
Although the bunnies seem to be his favorite,
Noah helps out with many rescue babies here
at the Wild Rose Rescue Ranch."
Noah's first litter
of bunnies, almost
raised
and ready for release.

How wonderful it is to have a full-time soft-feathered
nurturer here at the rescue ranch! He cuddles
with all the babies as they snuggle under
his warm feathers, and he "coos"
as if singing them to sleep with a lullaby.

Ok. Onto some serious business now.

As you know, Magnum
was attacked by something.
We have a medical update and some pictures.
The vets believe
he is going to make
it,
though after seeing
the pictures, I do
not
know how he has made
it this far.
We got this update
from Vicki Furstenberg
about 6:00 tonight.
HE ATE TODAY!
Subject: HAPPY UPDATE
on Magnum

From: Omalou@aol.com
I know I must be
the happiest person
on this
planet right now!!
I talked to Dr. Lott
at 4:00 this afternoon.
He was at the vet
clinic on Sunday to change
Magnum's bandage
and took him outside. Magnum
could walk and urinate!!
He would stretch
his legs and spread
his toes! WAHOO!! In
the beginning they
really were not sure what
kind of nerve damage
Magnum would have or
if he would be able
to walk again.
This morning Dr. Lott anesthetized him to
clean it and re-bandage it. He said there
was significant improvement as far as the
infected tissue and the horrific smell was
almost gone!! Ready for more good news??
Magnum ate a little chicken today. That was a huge hurdle!! More blood work
was done today and it showed improvement
with his liver enzymes. They are coming down!!
His protein was low, but that is due to loss
of muscle and blood. He is anemic, but they
are not overly concerned about that at this
moment. Can the news get any better? Oh yes
most definitely. Dr. Lott said he is "very
hopeful" the leg can be saved and that
Magnum will survive!! I suppose there is
always that chance that something unforeseen
can happen, but at this point Magnum is going
to live!! HE IS GOING TO LIVE!
His healing is going
to be long and slow,
but he will heal.
It will take months
for
him to completely
heal and it will
be 3-4
weeks before he is
ready for a foster
home.
Once he goes to a
foster home he will
need
to go to the clinic
to get the wound
cleaned
and bandaged for
several weeks. HE
IS ON
THE ROAD TO RECOVERY,
.a slow road, but
at
least he is going
in the right direction!!
I can not begin to
tell you how wonderful
Dr. Jones and Dr.
Lott and the entire
staff
at Cityview are.
They have been cooking
Magnum
chicken breasts and
scrambled eggs trying
to get him to eat.
Magnum could not
be in
a better place!!
Vicki Furstenberg.
Ok, now please pay attention here, ok?
Many of you will
NOT want to see these pictures. Trust me on
this one.
But if you DO want to see these very graphic
pictures of Magnum's injuries, you can click here.
Yes, we know. We are as outraged as you are
that this happened to him and that he didn't
get vet care immediately from his previous
owner.
After seeing the pictures, some of you may
wonder why we aren't choosing to euthanize
him.
Whenever this decision
is made, and it is
rarely made here
at Small Paws, the
decision
is based on the information
given to us by
the vets, as they
know the situation
best.
Dr. Randy Jones is one of the attending vets
for Magnum.
I love Randy. He and i have had many conversations
about euthanasia and we have the same philosophy
about it.
We never ever keep
a dog alive, just
for
us.
If a dog is too sick or injured, to the point
that he or she can never recover, of course
we choose to let them go home to God.
But if a dog's pain can be managed through
pain meds, and he or she has an opportunity
for healing, and to have a good quality of
life, we take it.
If Magnum can overcome this horrific injury,
he can be a blessing to a human being. He
can give and receive love, the way God meant
for it to be.
It may be that someone
who has had terrific
injuries in their
own life, may be
the one
to adopt Magnum.
We have seen some
pretty unbelievable adoptions
take place, here
a Small Paws.
After all, Magnum is following right along
in the tradition of Irving from Irving, Texas, coming from the depths of despair, and
even the same vet
office is caring
for Magnum,
that was caring for
little Irving.
He has the best chance
for survival there
with Dr. Lott and
Dr. Randy Jones!
They don't know what
this is going to
cost
us yet, but this
vet gives us a full
50%
rescue discount.
We do know he is going to need to be there
for the next several weeks. That's probably
about 30 days of hospitalization.
We have these new matching challenges for
little Magnum!

Our foster fluff,
Rudy, read the e-mails
from Robin about
the babies in need
of help
and grabbed my credit
card again! He told
me that we would
like to issue a matching
challenge for $50.00
this time since there
are five puppy mill
fluffs who need help
and have really sore
teeth like he used
to
have before SPR saved
him.
Thank you so much
for all that you do!!
Sincerely,
Tamira Sears - secretary

And from Jaquinta,
we have this matching
challenge for $5.00!
Yes, $5.00 can help!
Thank you Jaquinta!

Hello Robin,
I just put 5 dollars
in the mail for little
Magnum toward his
vet bills. His story
moved
me so much and made
me so incredibly
sad.
I know 5 dollars
isn't a lot but it's
all
i could afford. :(
Please if you will
issue matching challenge
for my 5 dollars
to everyone who was
moved
by Magnum's story
but maybe they don't
have
large amounts to
give.
Please just give
what you can and it will
all add up. Little
Magnum needs our help
and so do the five
bichons from the puppy
mill. Much love to
everyone.
Jaquinta>
This is how you can
help. All My Love,
Robin

Last Monday night we paid vet bills totalling
$10,840.48 for
the SPR rescued Bichons
across the country.
We've paid vet bills for the first half of
February
of 2010 totalling $19,164.65, averaging $1279.64
a day.

WOW, what a week. After spending the full
day Thurs at Ohio State we had an almost
perfect ultrasound but some thinning on a
small part of his small intestine. They did
an aspiration for cytology and it shows mild
inflammation. All other organs including
the adrenal glands were normal.
The also did a PLI
test and got the
results
today.
Got a call on Mick's PLI test and he was
30!! DOGS 0 to 200 µg/L Results within the
reference range.201 to 399 µg/L SO we can
rule out pancreatitis.
They still recommend a test for Addision's
after the steroids are out of his system
about a week from this Wed.
So now we are on pepcid 5 mg. Tramadol if
he seems in pain and Pro-pectalin for his
tummy and intestine.
Now if we can get
him to eat. He is
so not
trusting me right
now because of his
meds
and I can't blame
him at all. He's
loving
baby food meat as
he can tell by lapping
it that there is
NO pills in it. Using
the
food processor now
to blend up pasta,
turkey
and veggies for him
till he shows an
interest
in his dog food.
If any one knows
of a way
to get him back to
eating. Please let
me
know.
I just wanted to
post an update so
everyone
that emailed me know
that we think we
have
him on the mend.
It's been many hard
long
weeks here with tons
of worry. He still
isn't
his self yet as to
energy level and
all but
we are on the way!!
Thanks so much for all the wonderful emails,
love and prayers for Mick ( & his mommie
)
Hugs, Kathy
Will God let us have our beloved pet's in

For those broken of heart:

Humphrey Sisco

When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
