Dear Small Pawsers,

Small Paws Rescue Online Newsletter, especially to those of you who may have recently seen us on December 11, 2012, on Fox and Friends in New York City , or on Animal Planet on "Dogs 101.", or you may have read about us in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Find Your Happiness, 101 Stories about Finding Your Purpose, Passion and Joy . You also may have seen us on "Inside Edition" with Deborah Norville!

If you missed our previous newsletter, here it is.

It is getting serious here.

We do have some new matching donation challenges and I am so happy to send out any more that come in.

As you know,
Sara Pace, our Team Leader to IL. and IN., pulled three Bichons from kill shelters in the Chicago area.

Now she has pulled a fourth and he too will need $500-600.00 worth of vetting in order to be adopted. He is two years old.

"Lord Grantham"
(Grant)

There are several others in the Chicago area that need to be pulled SOON, but we have to be able to pay for their medical bills.

They will all four need vetting and quarantine that will run $500-600 each and I can't authorize their vetting until we raise the needed funds for them.

So far we have raised only $425.00 for these three and now there are four.

It's multiplying by the hour.

"Oliver"

This is Oliver. He was pulled from the shelter on 2/13/13. He is estimated to be around 4 years old. Will need neuter, dental, quarantine, and vaccinations.

Will keep you posted.
Sara

"Willow"

Willow came into rescue today. She was an unclaimed stray and at risk of being euthanized. She is estimated at 3-4 years. Vet will exam, vaccinate, do heartworm and fecal. She is around 14 lbs. very sweet! She is starting her 10 day quarantine.

"Widget"

Dr estimates him at 10-12 months old. He is so matted! Found a dryer sheet and a piece if shredded cheese in his hair. He will need neuter, vaccines and quarantine.

These are our Matching Donation Challenges!

First from Bob and Sue Gellar, we have this challenge for $100.00. Thank you both!
(By the way, this is a darling video of Sue teaching her two Bichons to Free Style Dance. Enjoy!)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHIPPER!!
Chipper’s motto should be the line from the movie “Galaxy Quest”: NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER!!
He has fought to stay with your loving family, more than once!

We would like to donate $100 to honor Chipper and his determination - those Bichons are tough little guys.

We hope anyone else who has been lucky enough to share their home with a “determined Bichon” – would do the same.

We are so fortunate to have this love in our lives.

Happy Birthday Chipper – we wish you 15 more happy healthy years.

Sue, Bob, Star and Electra Geller>

And LIVE from Manhattan in NEW YORK CITY, we have this challenge from Deborah Berger and her celerity Bichon, Boris Berger, for $100.00. Thank you both!

>When these folks applied to adopt, and we asked how their Bichon was killed by a car, this was their response. We hear this on an average of once a week.

(These are NOT Bichons adopted from Small Paws.)

PLEASE don't take a chance with the life of your Bichon!
We do not adopt to people who allow their dogs to run loose.

Subject: Re: Small Paws Rescue

We had him for the last five years, He is very obedient normally when we say "stay" he will stop wherever he is, so some times we are used to play with him in the yard for he loves to run around the yard in circles, during that time we did not put him on the leash, this particular day he was not on leash and did not yield to the command when he saw some dog across the road. It took off so suddenly the on coming driver did not have time to stop the car. That is how it happened.>

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
