Gem of the Day: Click here to see a short video taken of
Chipper, just last week.
He really is a blessing to his Dad and I
on his 12th Birthday!
Chipper was mostly dead in December after
having flatlined at Dr. Skip's after a routine
bronchial wash procedure. Thank God he was
there, as Skip pulled out all the stops to
save his life.
The day we got Chipper, May 30, 1998, was
my first experience with Bichons or with
seeing a puppy mill. And the rest, as they
say, is history.
Read Chipper's story
of survival from a puppy
mill.

Magnum was attacked by something or someone.
He is now at our
vet's office in the
Dallas
Ft, Worth area.
He still needs help
urgently and he needs
prayers that he survives
the weekend.
We have this brief update from Vicki Furstenberg
about our little Magnum, who was attacked
by they don't even know what, and brought
to the shelter three days later by his previous
owner.
THREE DAYS LATER.

I have not spoken
to Dr. Lott directly,
but
he did leave me a
message earlier.
Magnum
is still very critical.
The injuries to his
right hind quarters
are extensive. Very
extensive,
.at least 60% of
the thigh is involved.
There
is no skin left on
that side. Dr. Lott
is
not sure if it was
from the skin being
torn
off during the attack
or if the tissue
died
and fell off. Extensive
muscle damage. He
can stand and walk
a little bit. He
does
appear to be a little
brighter today than
he was yesterday.
Magnum's liver enzymes
are elevated, but
that could be from
the
attack. At this point
they are going to
keep
him comfortable with
pain meds, antibiotics,
and changing the
bandages. They will
do more
blood work on Monday.
Magnum is still not
interested in eating.
It's going to be
a
wait and see game
to see how Magnum
responds.
The good news is
the x-rays showed
no apparent
bone fractures and
he is heartworm negative.
I have asked them
to email me the photos
they took. I hope
I get them tonight.

We still have several of the following matching
donation challenges open and unanswered,
so we will run them one more time. (For instance,
if a challenge is issued for $100.00 and
you answer it with a matching $100.00 donation,
we will have $200.00 to go towards vet care.)
And don't forget the Ohio Five.
We barely raised enough for them to vet only
3 1/2 of them, and that was before we learned
they had kennel cough.
First, Live from Manhattan, in New York City,
we have this challenge for $200.00 from Deborah
Berger and her Bichon, Boris. Thank you so
much Deborah.

Hi Robin,
Hope you are on the road to recovery.
Who ever said a picture is worth a thousand
words hasn't seen Magnum and the gang of
5 please issue a $200.00 challenge My heart
breaks for all - but Magnum, this picture
belongs in the dictionary next to cruelty,
sadness and heartbreak. Tears are flowing
and my stomach is in a million knots, please
folks let your emotions guide you on this
one.

Next, from our friend Sue Hodges in Southern
California, we have this matching challenge
for $100.00. Thank you so much Sue.

very soon. I will

And from the Villages in Florida, we have
this challenge for $50.00. Thank you Lynne!
Robin,
I hope you feel better
soon, it must be
so
frustrating for you
to feel so ill and
still
be trying to save
all these dogs.
Please issue a $50
matching challenge
for
Magnum from my dog
Annie; I cannot believe
that anyone would
have left him for
3 days
in this condition
and it breaks my
heart
that people can treat
a dog like this and
make them suffer.
Hopefully people
will respond
and we can raise
the funds to save
him.

And for the Ohio 5, we have this challenge
from Claire.Thank you Claire, so very much.

Hi Susan,
I'd like to put out
a challenge for our
5
sweetest little ones.
Tatter and Junie
feel
that since Ms Robin
is so sick she can't
talk, then it's up
to us to talk for
her.
So $25.00 ea. from
my two and that also
includes
loads of prayers
and teaspoons of
honey for
the throat.
May this $50.00 be
put to good use. Actually
this works out to
$1.00 an inch in snow for
we here in Maryland.
Soooo anyone that has
25,00 or more, at
$1.00 an inch? per dog
in the family or
am I pushing it. LOL
We need to do this,
and we all know we
need
to do this.
Blessings from
Claire, Tatter Tot
and Junie>
And from Terri Halligen for the Ohio 5 we
have this challenge. Thank you Terri! Terri
will match up to five $50.00 donations. Is
anyone there?

Hi Robin,
I sure hope you are
feeling better soon.
I'd like to issue
a challenge to any
one
who has adopted a
puppy mill Bichon.
My very
special Luke ( aka
SPR Saunders) has
been
with us almost 3
1/2 years. He is
still making
progress but I doubt
he'll ever get completely
over his first 3
years, but he sure
loves
his mommy.
As a matter of fact
I'll match four $50
donations.
I'll also match a $50 donation for Flopsy
who looks so much like my heart dog Pooh
who now resides at the Rainbow Bridge.
God Bless You, Terri
Halligan .
That's the news for now, Please pray he makes
it through the weekend. All My Love, Robin

Last Monday night we paid vet bills totalling
$10,840.48 for
the SPR rescued Bichons
across the country.
We've paid vet bills for the first half of
February
of 2010 totalling $19,164.65, averaging $1279.64
a day.

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
